Breast Augmentation Incision Site

It is important that you fully understand each of this incision site and look for a skilled and experienced surgeon with that incision, especially for transaxillary incisions or else, you could end up with unbalance breasts.

The common breast augmentation incision site:Implants Incision Site

Transaxillary or under the arm implant incision - This incision allows breast implants to be placed either completely under the muscle or partially under the muscle or over the muscle. Since the incision took place in the armpit, it offers a scar-less breast. The scars after surgery is also well-hidden under the arm. Should the scars doesn't heal nicely, chances are, most people don't pay that much attention to this area anyway. This kind of incision is less concealed than periareolar but associated with less difficulty than the periareolar incision site when breast feeding.

The downside of transaxillary incision is that if a complication occurs, chances are, you'll might end with a re-operation of a different incision.

Periareolar or nipple incision - incision is made around the lower part of the areola. The incision is place at the very edge of the areola so that the scar blends in with the darker skin of the areola. This incision allows breast implants to be placed either above or below the muscle. It is also associated with a higher possibility of inability to successfully breast feed .

Inframammary or within the breast fold incision - Also known as crease incision. This is the most common incision presently used. Breast implants can be placed over, partially under, or completely under the muscle. If the incision is properly placed, the scar should not be visible, with the exception of being in a horizontal position. This incision is less concealed than periareolar but associated with less difficulty with breast feeding than the periareolar incision site. Unlike transaxillary incision, surgeon works within close proximity of the breast, denoting them more control over implant placement. In the case of undertaking a revision due to complication, surgery can still be performed by this incision. no new scars unlike transxillary incision.
