Capsule is the lining form by living tissue around the implant placed in the body. This is consider as the body's natural response. When the pocket containing implant begin to contracts or shrink, capsular contracture happened. The lining tissue around the implant began to tightens and squeeze the implant causing the breasts to harden. In some cases the shape of the breast will be distorted.

How to prevent Capsular Contracture

  • "Under the Muscle" or Subpectoral placement reduces the risk of capsular contracture.

  • Use of textured implants discourage the forming of hard capsule due to its rough surface.

  • Massage the breast after after a weeks you have your implants to reduce capsule hardening. This can only be done with smooth implants

  • Minimal touching of the implant ensure that no foreign substance being to the implant, which could inflame the surrounding tissue and causes capsular contracture.
     

Treatment for Capsular Contracture
Complete capsulectomy to remove the entire thickened capsule surrounding the breast implant to prevent future recurrent of capsular contractures from forming.
